EU donates items to 3 polyclinics in Accra to mark day

The European Union (EU) Delegation to Ghana as part of its activities to mark EU Day has donated hand washing stations, Veronica buckets and face masks to the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) to be distributed to polyclinics in Accra.

The EU in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance took the initiative to help mitigate the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

The Ambassador of the EU to Ghana, Diana Acconcia, speaking at a brief ceremony held in Accra yesterday said the gesture was meant to support Ghana in this difficult moment, and also work together with the government and other partners to put together an effective response.

“We’re looking at projects that are implemented all around Ghana to include initiatives to support communities during the COVID-19 crisis, to help in the health sector, to assist the poor and to support the most vulnerable communities, so in the coming days, we would have more activities in different regions of Ghana,” she said.

Ambassador Acconcia said the EU was working with the government on a budget support operation to support the government response to the pandemic.

“This operation will take the form of a direct grant and will be finalised in the coming days,” she added.

The Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) of Accra, Mohammed Adjei Sowah said that, the donations would go a long way to help the assembly in its fight against the COVID-19, adding that, the items would be distributed to Mamprobi, Kaneshie and Ussher polyclinics.

He pledged the assembly’s support to constantly supply water to the various hospitals to enable them function effectively and efficiently.

Mr Sowah thanked the EU for such a move and urged the public to adhere to the precautionary measures as directed by the government.
