E/R NPP Youth Organiser suspended for …unfounded allegations against pres, nat’l chairman

Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, the Akuapem North Constituency Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has been suspended indefinitely by the party for making unfounded allegations against the President and the National Chairman of the party during the Polling Station Executives and Electoral Area Coordinators elections.

Carlos Abingale, a member of the party and a polling station youth organiser at Demonstration 1 polling station in Akuapem North constituency invoked the jurisdiction of the Regional Steering Committee about the conduct of Mr Afriyie which contravenes Article 3 clause 5A of the constitution of the party.

A letter signed and issued by the Eastern Regional Secretary of the NPP, Jeff Konadu Addo stated that the decision to suspend Mr Afriyie was triggered by a petition dated March 23, 2022, from Mr Abingale, the petitioner, who added television news video evidence to buttress the unfounded allegations made by Mr Afriyie that, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the National Chairman Freddy Blay were destroying the NPP.

The petitioner also stated that Mr Afriyie threatened to blackmail the government on Facebook with the E-Levy Bill, collapse the party in 2024 by projecting their own candidate and the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Constituency in the Eastern Region, Nana Dokua Adjei not to show up in Parliament to support the passage of the  bill.

According to Mr Addo, the committee established a prima facie of gross misconduct against the constituency youth organiser and suspended him and referred the case to the Regional Disciplinary Committee for disciplinary enquiry.

In his response, Mr Afriyie said he had received the suspension in good faith and acknowledged the contents and would not be shaken by the suspension but would continue to support and assist the party in diverse ways.

It will be called some aggrieved members of the NPP in Akuapem North constituency boycotted the polling station executives and Electoral Area Coordinators elections over national security interference and widespread manipulation.

The disgruntled members mostly supporters of the incumbent MP alleged the elections was fraught with widespread irregularities and machinations violating the spirit of transparent, credible, free and fair elections. –starrfm.com.gh
