The Eastern Regional Minister, Seth Kwame Acheampong, has commended the chiefs and people of Manya Jorpanya for releasing land for 13 One District One Factory (1D1F) projects in the area.
Such collaboration, he explained, was needed to help drive the development agenda of the country.
The minister said this at the annual Ngmayem festival of the chiefs and people of Manya Jorpanyain of the Shai Osodoku District of the Greater Accra Region at the weekend.
The festival, which coincided with the 25th anniversary of enstoolment of Nene Dr Tei Djahene Korabo IV, was on the theme: ‘Silver Jubilee: Projecting our Infrastructure Achievement and Cultural Heritage.’
The 13 1D1F projects, Mr Acheampong stated, would not only benefit the area or the Greater Accra Region, but the whole country as the area serves as the best link from the Eastern Region to Tema Ports and other trade centres.
He said it was not easy to have a chief with united people ready to support him achieve his aspirations, and it was also not easy for a chief to celebrate 25 years on a stool, adding, “that is why I am adding my voice to let him continue to lead his people in truth and unity to promote the socio-economic development of the area.”
The minister charged the people to help the chiefs protect their heritage in order to continue to live in peace.
The Managing Director of U-Fresh Group of Companies, Ms Teresa Deng, commended Nene Korabo for backing his words with actions.
According to her, the chief was a “true leader to his people on the path of peace, unity and prosperity” as the company had co-existed with the community for years due to his sterling qualities.
“A true leader cares about his people not by mouth but actions despite the numerous obstacles he might have encountered these 25 years on the throne, we are proud of you,” she added.
Nene Korabo, in his welcome address, appealed to the government to, as a matter of agency, complete the two-kilometre road linking Jorpanya to the Tema-Akosombo road and other roads through Doryumu junction to Asebi.
This, he explained, would serve as a relief to motorists who had suffered using those roads, as well as fast track the movement of goods from the 1D1F factories to the market centres.
Nene Korabo commended the government for introducing the Free Senior High School policy which, he said had brought much relief to parents who hitherto would have been struggling to pay their wards school fees.
He urged the government to consider establishing one secondary school in the area to help maintain the pupils in the area.
Touching on his 25 years on the throne, Nene Korabo, who is also the Senior Asafoatse of the Shaistate, said there were no resources and amenities in the area when he was enstooled, but with perseverance he was able to surmount the challenges and this was how far God had brought the community.
He enumerated a number of development projects the area was enjoy, including Police Post to provide security for businesses, pipe-bone water, electricity, a basic school, eight residential and family apartments and information centres, a bank, a funeral home and a conference centre.
