DVLA sweeps 2 awards at GIITA night

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) was over the weekend honoured with two awards at the 11th Ghana Information Technology and Telecom Awards (GIITA) night, organised in Accra.

The awards; Best use of ICT to drive Efficiency and Public Sector IT Leadership Award,recognised the innovations in operations at DVLA which forms part of the government’s vision of a robust digital economy.

It also recognised the remarkable achievement of its Chief Executive, MrKwesiAgyemanBusia, upon assumption of office and the exceptional feat chalked by the Authority under his leadership in transforming the Authority.

It brings to 36, the number of awards received by DVLA in the last four and a half years, with the Chief Executive adjudged the Public Sector ICT man for four consecutive times: 2018 ( GITTA awards) 2019( CEO of the year-CEO Network, 2020 ( GITTA awards) and Public Sector IT Leadership Award 2021.

Other awards received by the Authority in the last four and a half years include; Excellence in Procurement and Supply Chain (SOE), Best Public Sector of the year (smart driver licence card in-house production),Hall of Fame in the Transportation Sector, the Best HR Technology Strategy, Best Employee Experience Strategy, the ICT Service delivery and information award; (Gold), Best government website;( Silver), Best government use of Social Media (citizen engagement).

In an address at the ceremony, the Minister of Communications and Digitisation, Mrs. UrslaOwusu-Ekuful, noted that government’s resolve at providing the necessary basic infrastructure, a conducive legal and regulatory environment, and building capacity to improve the adoption and use of ICT to engender digital innovation as a means of advancing the developmental process.

She said, “ the government has focused on providing key infrastructural to support the rapid digitisation of the country through projects such as the National Identification Card, the Ghana Post GPS Digital Address system, mobile money interoperability and the GHIPSS payments platform. 

She also mentioned the digitization of Motor Insurance database for all insurance policies and the digitisation of the Operations of DVLA.

The Director of Driver Training, Testing and Licensing, Mr. KafuiSemevo in an interview stated that the strategic plan of the Authority underpinned by the three foundational principles of “People” “Process” and “Technology” has been the driving force of the Authority to give customers the best of experience.

This, he said, has resulted in the introduction of the Computer Based Test (CBT) examination, online registration portal and the translation of CBT into Ghanaian local languages among others.
