The Vice Chancellor of Central University, Professor Bill Puplampu, has called on stakeholders to develop and operationalise the Human Capital Policy Framework and all educational efforts that seek to actualise the policy objective.
He said “as a country, we must revisit and improve how we treat teachers, since they are the builders of the skills we all possess”.
He was speaking at the 22nd Congregation where 900 students were graduated from the Central University, in Accra, on Thursday.
He urged the stakeholders to refocus on the primary and secondary education in terms of content, structure, standardised quality and resources.
According to him, he finds it rather upsetting when a school in the public system is euphemistically described as less-endowed.
‘’The state must concentrate on improving what we have rather than chasing new ideas and building new structures all the time. Half of the resources spent on new ventures could more than provide international standard of improvements to existing primary and secondary school institutions,’’ he said.
The Vice Chancellor said the school had received accreditation for some new programmes, including Doctor of Pharmacy top-up, and Communication Studies, where students had been enrolled to do the courses.
Professor Puplampu said in June this year, the school cut the sod for the construction of the Starbites Eatery on the campus and when completed, it would provide the youth with pool tables, Wifi, darts and other such facilities.
He said the Central University Hospital, a 26-bed facility with a surgical theatre, Obstetrician, Gynaecology and midwifery labour facilities, as well as two live streaming lecture halls, was almost completed.
He advised the graduates to be tactful with detractors, distractions, opposers and spoilers in their career and leadership journey and work hard diligently to demonstrate their expertise in their work.
