The Accra Circuit Court has granted GH¢900,000 bail with two sureties, to a businessman, Benjamin Ransford Tetteh, over alleged double sale of land.
The court ordered that one of Tetteh’s sureties should be justified at half of the amount of the bail sum, and adjourned the case to July 5, 2023.
The court presided over by Mrs Naa Quarshie also asked Tetteh to report to the police twice in a month until the final determination of the case.
Tetteh, who is accused of selling land to Mr Samuel Odametey Mensah, at 38,580 Euros and Joseph Okpoti Anang at GH¢350,000, has denied the offence.
Detective Chief Inspector Isaac Anquandah told the court that Mr Mensah, the first complainant is a teacher while Anang, the second complainant, an aluminium fabricator, all residents of Teshie, in the Greater Accra Region.
The prosecution said Tetteh, the accused, is a businessman and resident of Teshie.
Chief Insp Anquandah said in November 2021, Hanna Osabutey, 82, a neighbour, approached Tetteh on behalf of the first complainant in respect of land located behind his residence, being offered for sale.
After bargaining, a price of GH¢350,000 was agreed of which 38,580 Euros was paid to the accused as part payment.
Chief Insp Anquandah said after payment was made, accused bolted.
Prosecution said the first complainant lost interest in the land and demanded a refund of his money.
The court heard that accused promised to refund the money should he get a new buyer.
Chief Insp Anquandah said in December 2022, the second complainant approached the accused to buy the same land at GH¢600,000 of which an initial payment of GH¢350,000 was made to the accused, yet he failed to refund the first complainant’s money.
The prosecution said accused prevented second complainant from developing the land with reasons that he had not finished payment.
Chief Insp Anquandah said a report was made to the police, and efforts to reach accused proved futile.
The prosecution said a warrant of arrest was obtained from the court and circulated which led to the arrest of the accused.
Chief Insp Anquandah said when accused was arrested, he admitted in his investigation cautioned statement that he collected monies from both complainants in respect of the land. – GNA
