Businessman accused of robbing cabbie remanded

 The Tema Circuit Court A has remanded Eric Gyimah, businessman, in police custody for allegedly robbing a driver of taxi cab.

The victim, Daniel Azure, was driving the vehicle belonging to Rutherford N. A. Amarteifio when the incident occurred.

A plea of not guilty was entered for accused, and the court presided over by Ms Agnes Opoku Banie adjourned the case to August 28 this year.

Prosecuting, Assistant Superin­tendent of Police (ASP), George Doe, said the complainant, Azure, was a driver who resid­ed at Kasoa-Amanfrom in the Central Region, and Agbodzahu Wobube was a nurse at Sogakope Government Hospital.

ASP Doe said both Gyimah and Wobube resided at Adidome in the Volta region.

The prosecution said Gyimah and two other men, now at large, hired the services of Azure to convey them to a building under construction at the Central University area of Dawhenya for them to take pictures of the said building, and to send the pictures to their brother overseas.

ASP Doe said Gyimah sat in the front seat of the taxi while the two other men sat at the back.

The court heard that on reaching the Aflao Highway, after the Central University, Gyimah and the two other men directed the complainant to drive onto a rough road.

ASP Doe said that while they were on their way to the building site, Gyimah asked Azure to stop, which he obliged, and Gyimah and the two others alighted from the taxi.

The prosecution said Gy­imah and the two others asked complainant to wait for them so they could take pictures of the building.

ASP Doe said the three re­turned and sat in the taxi cab and asked the complainant to drive towards Accra.

According to the prosecution, Gyimah and the two men seated behind the driver entrapped the neck of Azure with a rope and pulled it against his seat, while Gyimah pulled a knife on him (victim).

ASP Doe said Azure held the knife and Gyimah pulled it through his right palm, and he suffered a cut.

ASP Doe said Gyimah alighted from the vehicle and with the help of the two others pulled Azure out of the taxi cab and dumped him in a pool of water on the road.

The prosecution said Gyimah and the other two men sat in the taxi cab and drove away.

ASP Doe said Azure had a Samsung A11 mobile phone valued at GH¢1,600.00, A.M.A. licence and Driver’s licence in the car.

ASP Doe said Azure reported the case to the police at Dawhen­ya.

The prosecution said the police received information that the taxi cab embossed with a new number plate of GN5669-22 was spotted at a mechanic shop in Sogakope.

ASP Doe said Wobube alleged­ly took the taxi cab for repairs and he (wobube) was arrested.

The court heard that Gyimah sold the taxi cab to Wobube for GH¢30,000.00.

ASP Doe said Wobube led police to arrest Gyimah, who was identified by Azure as one of his attackers. — GNA
