Bantama MP inaugurates youth choir in Kumasi

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Bantama, Francis Asenso-Boakye, on Saturday inaugurated the Bantama Youth Choir in Kumasi, the Ashanti Region’s capital.

Speaking at the event, the MP who is the Founder and President of the Choir said the good upbringing he had in the Methodist Church, growing up formed his basis for the establishment of the choir.

Mr Asenso-Boakye added that his love for choral music despite the setbacks of not having a good voice also formed the basis for instituting the Choir.

“As a Member of the Methodist Church, I have always loved to watch the choir sing, so I joined the choir, but one day, the Choir Master told me not to come for rehearsal again because my voice was not good for singing,” he stated.

“However, my being out of the choir didn’t kill my interest in Choral Music. So establishing the Bantama Youth Choir stems from my love for choral music and my resolve to engage the youth of the Bantama Constituency in worthwhile pursuits,” he added.

Mr Asenso-Boakye emphasisied that the choir was formed to manage the talents of the youth in a way that made them resourceful and in turn allowed them contribute their quota to national development, as well as motivated them to uphold strong Christian values.

Citing the Sowetho Choir and Winneba Youth Choir, the MP, who is also the Minister of Works and Housing, indicated that he wanted the choir to be recognised worldwide to help raise the flag of Ghana high.

He, therefore, charged the choristers to remain focused on the goal and showcase their God given talents in a way that pleased both God and man.

The event was graced by the Second Lady, Samira Bawumia; the Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah; Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Kessben Group, Mr Kwabena Kesse; Member of Parliament for Asokwa, Patricia Appiagyei; and the CEO of Jeshop Construction, Mr James Osei Brown.

Other personalities who graced the occasion were the Kumasi Metro Director of Urban, Nana Poku Agyeman; Chief of Nzema and Businessman, Nana Nkansah Boadu; CEO of Beauty Queen Hotels, Nana Adwoa Dokuaa; Ghana’s Former Ambassador to China, Edward Boateng and the CEO of Prefos Limited, Mr Alex Kwasi Fosu.
