An alleged armed robber was shot dead when he and his gang attacked a prisons officer at Oyarifa in Accra last Friday dawn.
The deceased yet to be identified had since been sent to the Police Hospital mortuary.
The Accra Regional Police Commander,Deputy Commission of Police (DCOP) FredrickAdu Anim, confirmed this to the Ghanaian Times in Accra yesterday stating that, the police had mounted a search for the arrest of the two accomplices.
The Ghanaian Times gathered that at about 1:20am the AbokobiAyi Mensah District Police Command patrol team received information that some armed robbers have attacked a family at Oyarifa and the team proceeded to the scene.
The team according to the police went to the scene,which was the house of a prison officer (name withheld) stationed at James Town Prisons whose family was attacked.
The police patrol team also spotted a male adult suspected to be in his 30s lying dead with gunshot wounds on his head.
According to the police, the prison officer explained that at about 1:10am the deceased and two other accomplice armed with knife, cutter, pistol and hammer, and wearing face masks, broke into his house and attack him, and his family at gun point.
The police said the officer managed to reach out for his pump action gun and engaged the robbers during which the deceased was hit in the head and his accomplice fled with mobile phones and unspecified amount of money.
The police have scene retrieved an industrial cutter and a hammer.
