The Akatsi South Municipal Assembly has put in place measures to block loopholes in revenue collection to mobilise enough money needed for development.
According to the MCE, Mr Martin Kofitse Nyahe, all gaps in revenue collection in the municipality were blocked, and a private revenue collector engaged on commission basis to help increase revenue collection for the assembly and speed up the development of the area.
Mr Nyahe said, the assembly attached importance to development through adequate local revenue mobilisation, as the only way to accelerate development of the area to improve on the living conditions of the residents in the municipality.
Addressing the journalists on the development activities of the Assembly at the capital Akatsi, Mr Nyahe assured the people that the assembly was committed to working hard to improve their living conditions, and urged them to collaborate effectively with the assembly by paying their taxes and levies regularly.
Mr Nyahe said the assembly had therefore, adopted strategies to boost local revenue collection through mobilising adequate resources, to carry out a strategic development agenda which would totally transform the living standards of the residents in the municipality.

He observed that the local governance system adopted by the country, called for accountability to ensure that the governed were regularly updated on the activities of the assembly, which was the basis for the media engagement to educate the residents on the activities and the duties of the assembly as well as the responsibilities of the citizenry in the development of the area.
Mr Nyahe explained that the assembly was exonerated in recent auditing by the Auditor-General, where the assembly was freed from any misconduct, and commended the staff for their hard work and dedication to deliver on their core mandate, as personnel for the judicious use of resources intended for the development of the people.
Touching on the general security in the municipality, the MCE said there was total peace in the area, which he said was a prerequisite for development, and urged all to embrace and deepen the peace being enjoyed in the municipality, and commended the police for their professionalism.
Mr Nyahe explained that issues of crime in the municipality were reduced because of police operational activities, which included regular patrols carried out, building of new police stations mounted by personnel, provision of street lights to improve visibility in the night and the construction of 2.3 kilometre road from Tordzinu to Agordoe and 10.24 kilometre of roads also reshaped.
He said the assembly identified education as key to the development of the area, and basic and second cycle institutions through the provision of school infrastructure, 800 mono-desks and 800 dual desks to needy basic schools, and the health needs of the people were tactically being addressed.
The MCE said the assembly was implementing all the flagship programmes introduced by government, including planting for food and jobs (PFJ), Rearing for food and jobs (RFJ), planting for export and Rural Development (PERD) among others, and called on individuals and companies to visit the area to explore the numerous investment opportunities in the municipality.
