3 Chinese donate items worth GH¢35,000 to New Life Children’s Home

Three Chinese nationals living in Ghana yesterday donated medical nose masks and assorted food items worth GH¢35,000 to New Life Children’s Home at Nungua in Accra.

The donation made by Ms Wu Er Le, Mr Cang Ping Xu and Ms Hai Jing Dong, all engaged in various business ventures in the country, was meant to cushion the home as well as mitigate the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) in the country.

Ms Dong, on behalf of the group said, it was heartwarming to partner the home, since arriving in the country and have ensured that the relationship had strengthened to become one of their corporate social responsibilities.

She said the reception received from the business community as well as the proverbial Ghanaian hospitality, served as motivation to continue to support the home.

Ms Dong said the support came from their individual efforts, with sometimes additional contributions from well wishers from China, and promised to put smiles on the faces of the children to help strengthen the already existing bond of friendship between Ghana and China.

Receiving the items, Mr Cephas Nii Mensah Afotey, co-founder of the home commended the donors for their kind gesture, and said the three individuals had become one of their key benefactors and supported the home regularly since their arrival in Ghana about eight years ago.

He said the home has been receiving a lot of items from them to facilitate the running of the place, the recent one being a contribution they made towards the construction of an extension facility to accommodate more children.

Mr Afotey urged benevolent individuals, associations and corporate organisations to also come to their aid, since the home’s work extended to taking care of the aged as well as supporting brilliant, but needy students in the community.

He used the opportunity to advise Ghanaians to strictly adhere to the protocols, which prevent the spread of the coronavirus, by constantly washing their hands thoroughly, wearing their nose masks and using hand sanitisers frequently.
