227 police recruits pass out at Ho

About 227 police recruits who underwent six months training at the Ghana Police Service Training School at Ho in the Volta Region have passed out.

The recruits were taken through physical training, musketry, and foot and rifle drills.

Additionally, they were taught subjects as practical police duties, criminal law, criminal procedures, criminal investigations, law of evidence, acts and decrees, service instructions, professional policing ethics, English language and report writing, psychology client care, community policing, first aid/HIV/AIDS, French, map reading, child friendly policing and human rights.

Commissioner of Police (COP) Mr George Tuffour, Director General/Finance, who reviewed the parade, urged the new constables to be professional in delivering their duties and apply the rules and procedures when carrying out their duties.

He added that, the new constables should take instructions, direction and guidance from their commanders, and “be law-abiding before you cite others for violation of various infringements or fractions.”

COP Tuffour also urged them to be discrete and trustworthy, because the Police Service and the public expect them to always keep their word, and also handle their communication with the necessary confidentiality.

“You have to be punctual at your duty points, observe the rules with objectivity and help people requiring your assistance,” he said.

COP Tuffour stated that the police administration aims at obtaining the necessary logistics, communication equipment and information that would enable every patrol team to respond with precision to every distress call for assistance, in respect of criminal or safety incidents.

COP Tuffour was appreciative of the effort made by government to provide the Police Service with adequate logistics for its operations.

Those who were honoured included Agyenim B. Collins, best in academia; Ameyaw K Samuel, best in child-friendly policing; Sulemani Elivasu, best in conduct; Twumasi Baafi, best in drill; Odoi Francis, best marksman; and Adane Francis, best in physical training.

General recruit Christian Gyan-Monte emerged as the overall best recruit. He was presented with a baton of honour and a prize.
