The government on Tuesday announced the setting up of GH¢3million fund to support the Campus Business Pitch (CBP), an initiative to unearth entrepreneurial potentials in students.
The CBP is aimed at providing students the opportunity to pitch their business ideas before a panel of judges and the best ideas given the needed support including capacity building and funding.
The initiative is being championed by the Ministry of Business Development, as part of government’s effort at reducing unemployment among graduates in the country.
According to Dr Mohammed Awal, the sector minister, the CBP was to encourage students, especially females to take advantage of the opportunity and come up with compelling and innovative ideas.
“Most big businesses started in schools so start thinking big, do not limit yourselves, have courage and do not let anyone put you down.
The road to success is not always smooth so put in all your effort and you will be surprised how successful and financially independent you will become” he said.
The Ghanaian Times commends the Business Development Ministry for the role it is playing to encourage the youth to pitch their business idea in order to come up with start-ups that could be supported.
In our view, this is an innovative idea and with the right support, must set the students on the path of creating jobs by themselves and not relying on the government for employment after graduation.
Indeed, to unearth the entrepreneurial potential in students and support them financially to start businesses is a sure way of reducing unemployment among graduates.
In fact, it is also going to create the opportunity for young entrepreneurs to contribute to the economy and employments creation in the country.
It is, therefore, a good decision taken by the Ministry of Business Development to support innovative start-ups, help them grow and expand.
We are hopeful that the students would take advantage of the opportunities offered them by the government to come up with innovative ideas that would attract support.
It is important for the youth to note that young people are taking centre stage in the world of entrepreneurship and starting their own businesses.
Majority of them are ambitious, smart, curious and fearless. They take risks to come up with incredible and profitable businesses.
That is what the CBP and the initiative is all about.
