Wassa­ East Assembly honours dedicated teachers, GES staff

The Wassa­ East District Assembly in the Western Region, has honoured teaching and non-teaching staff of the Ghana Education Service (GES), for their contributions towards the development of education in the area.

This year’s programme, at which other stakeholders in education were also rewarded, was on the theme: ‘The young teacher: Future of the teaching profession’.

It was sponsored by the assembly, with support from Golden Star Mines, Skyy Power and the Ghana Investment Fund Electronic Communications (GIFEC).

The District Director of Education, Mrs Ernestina Winful, received a laptop computer for her dedication to duty.

The Best Circuit Supervisor award for Sekyere­ Krobo went to Mr Stephen Afful, who took home a laptop computer, while Mr Shadrack Ananse of the District Education Service, won the best worker award, and received a double­ decker.

Madam Rebecca Abamba Quainoo of the S.I.P.L./SOCFINAF D/A School, who was adjudged the best kindergarten (KG) teacher, received a double decker fridge and other products.

Matilda Amoah of the St. Martin’s Anglican Primary, received the Best Primary Teacher award, taking home a double ­decker fridge and other products.

Mr Theophilus Baah Biney of the S.I.P.L/SOCFINAF JHS, was adjudged the Best JHS teacher, and received a flat screen television (TV).

Others were Mr Ebenezer Baah of Sekyere­Krobo D/A Primary, Mr John Kwaboh of the Sekyere­ Obuase D/A JHS, Nana Yaa Kwartmah of Senchem D/A Basic School, Shadrack Yalley, Alex Afful, Isaac Botchwey and Monica Yankey.

The Chief Executive Officer of GIFEC, Mr Kofi Asante, said teachers played critical roles in national development as they helped built the foundation for the human resource base.

He said his outfit trained not less than 2,000 teachers and 90,000 children within one-and-half years.

Mr Asante said his outfit would collaborate with other organisations, to improve on the quality of education in accordance with the Sustainable Development Goal 4.

The District Chief Executive of Wassa East, Mr Wilson Arthur, noted that the number of children who qualified to senior high school has increased.

He asked students to take their studies seriously, particularly Information and Communication Technology, which is key to development.

The District Director of Education urged teachers to put in their best to raise the standard of education in the area.

She also reminded them that they had critical roles to play in the implementation of the country’s educational reforms. – GNA
