Prof Amartey, Rev Dr Wyns-Dogbe adjudged Marketing Man, Woman of the Year 2018

VICE Chancellor of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) Professor Abednego O. F Amartey and Managing Director of SICLife Company Limited, Rev Dr Elizabeth Wyns-Dogbe are Chartered Institute of Marketing, Ghana (CIMG) Marketing Man and Woman of the year 2018.

They were honoured for their outstanding accomplishments in their respective institutions, at the 30th National Marketing Performance Awards organised by the CIMG in Accra on Saturday.

More than 60  personalities and brands that distinguished themselves last year,  were awarded at the annual ceremony on theme “Celebrating 30 years of promoting marketing excellence: synergies for the future “

Noel Kojo Hanson, Chief Marketing Officer, Scancom PLC (MTN), emerged Marketing Practitioner of the Year and Ms Rosalind Korkor Adzimahe, Marketing Manager, Silver Star was pronounced Marketing Student of the Year.

Addressing the gathering, Mr Kojo Mattah, National President of CIMG, commended all stakeholders and sponsors for helping organise the awards for three decades without blemish.

 He said it was part of efforts to remove prejudices in judging nominees, that the institute acquired a state-of-the-art survey software and had struck out the criteria where the highest scoring nominee in a category won the award.

“This is why for the first time  in many years, today, we shall not be giving awards to six different categories because the entries did not meet the new pass mark” he said.

These categories included Real Estate facility, private health facility, Postal and courier services , corporate pension trust , micro-finance and e-commerce.

With this year’s awards being his last as the CIMG president after serving two terms, he called for support for his successor to enable him guard the sanctity of the awards scheme and CIMG.

The special guest of honour, Nana Akogyei Yeboah I, Kyedomhene of the Assin Juaben of the Assin Atandensu Traditional Council in the Central Region lauded CIMG for bringing out the best in corporate Ghana through the awards. 

Known in private life as  Nana Philip Archer, the chief , who is the Commercial Director of GHACEM, urged the institute to continue to develop the right synergies to drive the growth of businesses as well as improve the awards.

He congratulated winners and advised corporate Ghana to take the awards seriously, saying ” a serious application of the standards set up in the criteria will contribute to the improvement in the progress of your enterprises “.

The Marketing Man and Woman of the Year took turns to thank CIMG for the honour and their various organisations for the support in achieving the feat and urged marketers to uphold professionalism in their work.

GOIL and African World Airline joined Toyota, Melcom, ECOBANK, SICLIFE, Japan Motors , Enterprise Insurance , Vanguard Assurance in the Hall of fame categories as new entrants.

Unilever’ Pepsodent, INTERPLAST, Shell, Coca Cola Bottling’s Coke, Thaiunion’s Starkist, Fanmilk’s Fanyogo, Graphic Communication Group, ABL’s Club Beer were among 16 brands named 30th anniversary Legacy brands.

Total emerged Petroleum Company of the Year; Silver Star Auto Limited, Motor Firm of the Year; Stanbic Bank, Bank of the Year; Atwima Kwanwima Rural Bank, Rural Bank of the Year and MTN Ghana as Telecom Company and Internet provider of the Year.

Product of the Year (manufacturing) went to Kasapreko’ Alomo bitters; Product of the year (Service) , Ecobank Mobile App; Emerging Brand Olam’s Nutrix Biscuit; Media organisation of the Year, Graphic Communication Group while Methodist Girls Senior High School won CIMG Presidential Award for winning international robotic competition.
