Major rehabilitation works on the Dome–Kitase road will begin at the end of this month.
This followed the formalisation of final contract documents between the Ministry of Roads and Highways and Messrs First Sky Construction Limited – the contractors to execute the 16.3 kilometre project.
The project valued at GH¢192,932,197.96 would be completed in 24 months.
Mr Kwesi Amoako–Atta, Minister of Roads and Highways signed on behalf of government, while Mr Oliver Acquah, the Chief Executive Officer of First Sky Construction signed on behalf of his company.
The minister in his brief remarks said the project when completed would serve as an alternative route to Peduase and a strategic link between the Greater Accra and Eastern regions.
“It is a very important project that would serve as the shortest road to the Eastern region as the areas locations likeAshesi University,” he added.
Mr Amoako–Atta stated that the rehabilitation was in fulfillment of the President’s promise to the people in the area in 2017 and its successful completion would boost their socio-economic activities.
He indicated that the contract sum was already available and directed the Ghana Highway Authority to hand over the site to the contractor by close of Thursday.
The Minister explained that First Sky was carefully selected after a competitive bidding among both local and international contractors, adding that “the standards of the company was comparable to any other construction company hence the decision to select.”
Mr Amoako–Atta assured the contractor of the Ministry’s support to enable them execute the project without any hindrance.
“All the procurement processes have been completed, money is also available, what is left now is for the contractor to move to site and begin his job after the ground breaking ceremony at the end of this month by either the President or the Vice President.”
Mr Acquah told the Ghanaian Times in an interview that the company was ever ready to execute a perfect job as has always been its trademark.
