Govt committed to hosting of AG 2023

The Minister of Finance, Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta has underscored government’scommitment to the provisionof adequate logistics and infrastructure for the hosting of the 2023 African Games in Ghana.

The minister said this in the 2022 Economic Policy and Budget Statement read in Parliament, yesterday.

“In 2022, Ghana will participate in the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham and continue with preparatory activities towards organizing and hosting of the 13th African Games in 2023,” the statement read.

Government, it said,would procure logistics and equipment to begin the construction of a new multipurpose sports hall, hostel facilities and an Olympic size swimming pool at Borteyman in Accra.

It said some stadia across the country were renovated in 2021 and are at various stages of completion including the Accra Sports Stadium, the Baba Yara Sports Stadium,Essipun and Cape Coast Stadium.

“Government will continue with the construction of the Abiriw and the new Edubiase Sports Stadium as well as commence the rehabilitation of the Sunyani Coronation Park,” it stressed.
