‘Abronye DC’ granted GH100, 000 bail …for alleged publication of false news

The Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Kwame Baffoe, was yesterday granted GH100, 000 with two sureties by an Accra Circuit Court.

He pleaded not guilty to two counts of publication of false news and offensive conduct conducive to breach of the peace.

As part of the bail conditions, the two sureties are to deposit their passports and valid ID cards at the court registry.

The Court presided over by Ms Adelaide Abui Keddy, adjourned the case to March 9, 2022.

The accused also known as ‘Abronye DC’, according to the prosecution, allegedly claimed on radio that former President John Dramani Mahama was plotting with al-Qaeda, a terrorist group, to stage a coup in Ghana.

Baffoe is said to have made the allegation in a radio interview with Accra-based Hot FM, during a political talk show, “Dwene Ho Bio.”

He is said to have claimed that former President Mahama had met with the Al Qaeda militants in an attempt to stage a coup in Ghana.

According to Baffoe, former President Mahama was in ties with the group to help him undertake a coup to become president again.

Baffoe was responding to issues leading to the arrest of the convenor of the FixTheCountry Movement, Oliver Mawuse Barker-Vormawor, who had also made claims of staging a coup should the controversial E-Levy be passed by parliament.

The NPP Bono Regional Chairman was invited by police for investigation before he was arraigned.

After satisfying the bail condition, Mr Baffoe allegedly told Accra-based radio station that his arrest and subsequent appearance in court would not cow him into submission.

He said as a politician, he would continue to speak his mind on issues that concerns the development of the nation.
