The police have also launched a manhunt for two staff of the National Identification Authority (NIA) for allegedly registering people for the Ghana Cards at night at a residence near Saint Teresa’s School at Awudome in Accra on Tuesday.
The suspects (names withheld) were reported registering people at about 7p.m. when residents spotted them.
Equipment retrieved from the house included passports, fingerprint machine, registration forms, laptops, birth certificates, Identity cards, and a printer among others.
The situation was reported to have attracted a large crowd to the scene.
The Kaneshie Divisional Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Edward Faakye-Kumi confirmed the incident to journalists at a press briefing yesterday.
He said the police received information about the alleged activities of the suspects and proceeded to the scene.
He said police did not meet the said NIA officials at the residence but the landlady was met and asked to report to the station for interrogation.
The Commander added that the landlady and the district registration officer of the area have since been interrogated.
ACP Faakye-Kumi said efforts were made by the police to apprehend the two officials to assist in investigations.
He said the exhibits were in the custody of the police, adding that the case was under investigations.
It was also reported in the April 26 issue that the NIA was targeting to register 85 per cent of citizens aged 15 years and above from April 29 to March 31,next year as its rolls out its mass registration exercise of the Ghana Card.
