AG: Ghana loses to Rwanda in beach volley

Ghana lost to a highly motivated and inspired Rwandan team yesterday in the quarter finals of the beach volleyball competition at Sale Beach Arena in the ongoing 12th African Games in Morocco.

Ghana lost in two straight sets of 21-15, 21-13 to Rwanda in the quarter finals.

It was a difficult encounter for the Ghanaians who tried every trick under their sleeve to pull a surprise over the Rwandans who displayed abundant skills and stamina to overcome the Ghanaians.

The Ghanaian team was successful with a silver medal in beach volley at the first African Beach Games in Sal, Cape Verde and was tipped to build on that success but that was never to be.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) has urged athletes and officials representing Ghana at the Games to be good ambassadors of the nation.

President of the GOC, Ben Nunoo Mensah said in a statement that the African Games is the ‘African Olympics’ where all the best sportsmen and women in Africa converge to test their skills and talents in sports.

“It is therefore important to maintain a high standard of discipline among players and officials. That is the surest way of projecting Ghana to the international community.”
