REGSEC imposes curfew on Bomaa over chieftaincy dispute

Following the violent clashes by two chieftaincy factions which claimed one life and injured five others on Sunday, the Ahafo Regional Security Council (REGSEC) in consultation with the Interior and National Security Ministries has imposed curfew in the area to restore law and order in the Tano North Municipality.

The curfew, which took effect on Sunday starts from 5:00 p.m. to 7: 00 a.m. everyday pending periodic assessments and reviews from key stakeholders.

The Regional Minister, Mr George Yaw Boakye, members of REGSEC and other stakeholders have since visited the community to assess the situation.

The minister and his entourage also visited the family of the deceased to commiserate with them on their loss.

He charged the security agen­cies to mount full scale investi­gations into the matter to ensure justice was served.

Mr Boakye also met with the leaders of the two factions in the town and appealed for calm and gave the assurance that the matter would be investigated and the culprits brought to book.

It is recalled that violence broke out on Sunday following the performance of the final funeral rites of the late chief at Bomaa in the Ahafo Region, Barima Kwafo Akoto, who died in 2021.

The injured persons had since been treated and discharged while the deceased, yet to be identified had been deposited at the Duayaw-Nkwanta Hospital for autopsy and preservation.

Meanwhile calm has returned to the community amid heavy security presence.
