Chief Imam warns against partisan politics at National Maulid celebration

 The National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sha­rubutu, has warned partici­pants of this year’s National Maulid celebrations, to avoid any partisan politics at the venue, to ensure peace and harmony during the celebrations which is scheduled on October 14, 2023.

He said the celebrations, which highlight the exemplary life of the Prophet Muhammad, would be attended by high-profile personalities including the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, former President John Agyekum Kufuor, among other personalities.

Addressing the pressmen yester­day in Accra, to highlight activities of the celebrations, Sheikh Sharu­butu said he expect all participants of the celebrations to respect the invited guest, since any disrespectful­ness to these personalities due their political affiliations would not be tolerated.

He said persons in party parapher­nalia would not be entertained at the venue, and cautioned against booing and sneering of those who have been scheduled to speak at the event.

Sheikh Sharubutu said no invited quests aside the President would be allowed to greet participants and observers, stressing that, these measures were to discourage partisan politics which may have the tenden­cy in tarnishing the beauty of the ceremony.

He said the celebration would attract a huge patronage from all people including Christians, stressing that the significant of the celebration “is to the fullest expression of love, affection and teachings of Prophet Mohammed.”

“As you all know, Muslims believes that Prophet Mohammed is Allah’s gift of divine mercies to the entirety of the world, and more importantly Prophet Mohammed is acknowledge as a son to guide humanity to the end of time.

It is therefore an event of greatly religious of significance, celebrated with passion and immense com­mitment, and is also considered a unique opportunity to showcase and celebrate the ideals and examplinary qualities of Prophet Mohammed,” Sheikh Sharubutu said.

“We have observed in recent years the celebrations is gradually losing it significance and identity due to a number of issues that are of con­cern to me,” he said.
