Bongo Assembly disburses GH₵ 69,853 DACF for PWDs

The Bongo District Assembly in the Upper East Region has disbursed GH₵ 69,853, being part of the 3 per cent allocation of the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF) meant for Persons With Disabilities (PWDs).

Part of the amount was meant to support PWDs in income generating activities, education, apprenticeship and medical care.

The PWDs also received sewing machines, and a motorcycle was also purchased for the District Office of the Ghana Federation of the Disabled Organisation.

The District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr Peter Ayamga Ayinbisa, speaking at a ceremony to present the items, said that the government has increased the DACF from 2 per cent to 3 per cent as a fulfillment of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) campaign promise.

He said the assembly, early this year, disbursed GH₵ 150,000 to PWDs in the district.

Mr Ayinbisa said beneficiaries received an amount between GH₵400 and GH₵2,662, adding that they received cheques paid by the banks.

He urged the beneficiaries to use resources judiciously to improve upon their livelihoods.

President of the local chapter of the association, Mr Clement Mba, commended President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for honouring his campaign promise to increase the allocation of DACF meant for PWDs.

He appealed to the government to release the backlog of the 2016 DACF for PWDs funds.

The District Director of Social Welfare, Mr John Azam, stated that his outfit in collaboration with National Board for Small Scale Industries (NBSSI) supported the Fund Management Committee of the PWDs, to conduct vigorous assessment in selecting DACF for PWDs.
