Ada West Assembly fails to elect presiding member

The Ada West District Assembly has for the first time, failed to elect a Presiding Member(PM).

Mr Prince Akoto polled 12 votes, representing 54.55 per cent while his contender, the former PM, Mr Amuyao, had 10 votes representing 45.45 per cent repeatedly in two rounds of voting.

The District’s Electoral Commission therefore asked the 22-member assembly to write to them within 10 days for another election to be held.

Speaking to the GNA after the elections, the Member of Parliament for Ada West, Mr Christian Corletey Otuteye, said the outcome of the election, reflected the depth of democracy at the local government level.

“I think the situation where we had two elections without a presiding member simply tells you that it is becoming more competitive than we know,” he said.
