2 Cameroonians remanded for allegedly possessing GH¢64,000 counterfeit

Two Cameroonians have been remanded into police custody by the Akweley Magistrate Court, for allegedly possessing GH¢64,000.00 in GHC200 counterfeited notes.

They are also being held for allegedly involving in money doubling in Kasoa in the Central Region.

The Commander of the Central East Police Command, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Boapeah Okyere, confirmed the story at a press conference at Kasoa, yesterday.

He said the police received a call from Emmanuel Agyemang that he (Emmanuel) had been contacted by accused, M.B.A Caleb and William Mbenson, both 37, via social media handle to part with GH¢50, 000.00 for them to double.

DCOP Okyere said accused were arrested at their hideout at Opeikuma and when a searched was carried out at the homes the police retrieved a printing machine and fake GH¢64,000.00 currency in GH¢200 notes.

“We arrested them immediately and processed them for court the next day and they were remanded into police custody to reappear on February 16,” he said.

The commander conceded that while there were genuine foreigners engaging in legal businesses in Ghana, there were also foreigners engaging in various criminal activities in the country which will not be countenanced.

DCOP Okyere gave the assurance that the police would arrest criminals in the area, and cautioned the public to be vigilant “because fraudsters are everywhere so be careful you do not become a victim of their illegal activities.”
