pThe Association of Women Accountants Ghana (AWAG), has inducted into office its new executives during its annual general meeting in Accra yesterday with a call on them to help address financial crime in the country.
The Director-General of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah who is the new president of the association said women accountants were very crucial to the development of every country.
She said women accountants could help fight crimes such as money laundering through education and public reach-out.
DCOP Addo-Danquah stated the capacity building of members would be given a top priority.
“The accountancy profession is dynamic therefore, there is the need to constantly build on our capacity to acquire knowledge and skill required of us in the discharge of our duties,” she added
She commended the past executives and the members for the confidence reposed in them, adding that the new executives would endeavour to work hard to promote the welfare of female accountants in the country.
DCOP Addo-Danquah called on females accountants to join the association.
The outgoing President of AWAG Mrs Belinda Dede Tandoh commended the new executives and urged them to continue with the good work started.
She urged members to get involved in the association activities at all times.
The other members are Mrs Elsie Bunyan, a board member of Integrity Initiative, the new Vice President, Mrs Patience Mawushie Dzikunoo, who is the Treasurer, Old Achimotans Association (Global) is now the Organising Secretary, and Mrs Augustina Adu-Gyamfi, a member of the Institute of Chartered Accounants is the new Treasurer.
