GH¢3.5m hospital for Dokyiwa, Binsere c’nities in Obuasi takes off

The construction of a GH¢ 3.5 million hospital to serve the Doky­iwa and Binsere communities in the Obuasi Municipality in the Ashanti Region, has taken off.

Being built by the AngloGold Ashanti, Obuasi Mine, the facility, when completed on March 30, 2024, is expected to save residents the stress of accessing basic health services in the central business district.

It would cater for a wide range of medical services including general medical consultations, ante-natal and post-natal, dispen­sary, in-patient care, a laboratory services.

The project falls under the health component of the 10-year So­cio-Economic Development Plan (SEDP) of the mining company which aims to improve access to quality health within its operational areas.

Performing the ground breaking ceremony, the Senior Manager, Sustainability, AngloGold, Emman­uel Baidoo, said the hospital would be equipped with modern medical equipment and staffed with highly skilled healthcare professionals to deliver efficient health and patient care upon completion.

“Through this initiative, Anglo­Gold Ashanti aims at enhancing the overall well-being of com­munity members by providing a conducive environment to facilitate the delivery of health care, improve patient/healthcare service provid­ers relationship, reduce commuting distance of community members to access health facilities in the Central Business District, while providing matching health infra­structure that delivers the necessary public health services within host communities, ” he indicated.

The Senior Manager said the company was committed to achieving the objectives in the SEDP which sought to contribute to resilient and socio-economically self-sustaining communities by improving social development, diversifying and sustaining local economy through cross-section partnerships.

The Municipal Health Director, Mr Martin Osei Sarfo, praised the mining company for the numerous health interventions it had been making for the people of Obuasi and beyond.

The impact of the mine in the area of health, he said, was immea­surable and the construction of the health facility was one of many initiatives that would be impacting the lives of the people.

He gave the assurance the directorate would prioritise the maintenance of the facility when completed for posterity.
