Youth kicks against reappointment of former Suhum MCE

The Concerned Youth of Suhum in the Eastern Region, have appealed to the president not to reappoint Margaret Darko Darkwa as Suhum Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) because she has failed to connect with the grassroots of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

They said she failed to connect with the grassroots of the party in the area and did nothing to support and assist in the socioeconomic development of the area.

“This is a woman who brought many cracks among the rank and file of the party, verbally assaulting the Constituency Chairman and other Constituency Executives, she doesn’t accord the traditional authorities with the needed respect and the youth hence the appeal to the president not to reappoint her,” it alleged.

In a statement issued in Suhum, the youth said they were tired of the unproductive, divide and rule tactics, we must ask why she couldn’t get a Presiding Member during the last assembly which the Assembly Members have just sent a signal to her and the municipality she can’t lead them again.

“We think this will replicate if her name is mentioned again due to her poor human relationship, abuse of power, vindictiveness, vilification, amassing of wealth and her selfish nature has cost the municipality a lot, working relationship with the party hierarchy was unhealthy but we accommodated her, though we all knew she wasn’t good for the job.

“We are pleading with the president to consider the views of the people in the constituency and the constituency executives before appointing a different person instead of retaining Mrs Darkwa, the statement alleged.

The statement urged President Akufo-Addo to appoint a person who connects well with the grassroots and who can contribute to the party’s fortunes in the constituency is what we expect the president in consultation with the leadership of the party to appoint to serve the government and to work for the growth and development of the party and the municipality.

“We admonish the Appointments Committee of Parliament and the president to use independent sources to seek the concerns and feelings of the members and supporters of the NPP in the constituency rather than relying on people who wield some seeming influence in the constituency,” it said.
