Youth admonished to take up leadership roles

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Kwadaso Constituency in the Ashanti Region, Dr Kingsley Nyarko, has admonished the youth to show seriousness and opportunities to enable them to take up leadership roles to become self-reliable.

That, he explained, would create more employment opportunities leading to self-sufficiency in the wake of unemployment in the country and avoid non-existent jobs in the public sector.

“It is unfortunate that most youth after graduation want to be automatically absorbed by the public sector which has created more pressure on government employment opportunities and taking up leadership roles can create more opportunities,” Dr Nyarko stressed.

He was speaking at a town hall meeting organised for the residents of Kokode Electoral Area in the Kwadaso Municipality, as part of his community outreach engagement with constituents which is the 11th in the series organised by the MP in the Constituency, was under the theme: ‘Building Kwadaso Together’.

It was designed to afford Dr Nyarko and Agyenim Boateng, the Municipal Chief Executive, opportunity to interact with the people and keep abreast with growth and development challenges facing residents and discuss best ways they can work together to address them.

Dr Nyarko challenged the youth to take leadership roles as battlefield and exercise discipline in livelihoods adding that “it is through leadership and entrepreneurship ideas that most people succeeded in life and I laud constituents for voting for him to represent them in Parliament.

“I appealed to you to be peaceful, unite, assist and support me and Mr Boateng in discharge of our duties in implementation of growth and development programmes and projects for your benefit and important for you to decide which are of priority to you for consideration and implementation,” he said.

Mr Boateng disclosed that arrangements had been made by the Assembly to construct household toilet facilities and water supply to residents through United Nations International Children’s Fund under Greater Kumasi Metropolitan Area Sanitation and Water Project which were designed to bring sanitation facilities and water supply to residents in Kumasi, of which Kwadaso Municipal had been included.

Wilson Sackey, the Assembly Member of Kokode Electoral Area, commended MP and Municipal Chief Executive for engaging constituents to know problems and challenges facing them and help find best ways to address them. -GNA
