The Member of Parliament (MP) for Yendi Constituency in the Northern Region, Alhaji Farouk Aliu Mahama, has called on Muslims to unite towards the development of their communities and country.
He said “If we put our differences aside as Muslims and come together as one people to ensure that there is absolute peace, harmony, cohesion and unity in our various Muslim communities among ourselves for development.”
Alhaji Mahama made the call in a telephone interview with the Ghanaian Times here in Tamale on Tuesday, after a Quranic recitation.
He said the purpose of Quranic recitation was to pray to Allah for guidance, protection and good health at all times.
The MP stressed that there was the need for Muslims to work together and champion the development of their communities.
Alhaji Mahama, who is also chairman of the Muslim Caucus in Parliament, urged Muslims in the country to sustain peace and unity they have espoused all the time.
He said he was embarking on extraordinary meetings with Islamic clerics, Ulumaah and youth groups in the Muslim communities to build a healthy relationship towards progress.
Alhaji Mahama said he was working with development partners to consider sending development to Muslim communities.
The MP gave the assurance that he would “strategise and send development to people in the entire Muslim communities.”
Alhaji Mahama said “the development of Muslim communities in this country solely lie in our hands. Our communities can not develop the way we want unless we love ourselves and unite as one people.”
He urged Muslim youth to identify themselves with their communities and contribute to development.
Alhaji Shaibu Muaz, an Islamic cleric, who led the Quranic recitation, thanked the MP for organising the event.
He said clerics in the Muslim communities would continue to pray for prosperity, good will and development.
