The Member of Parliament for Yendi, Alhaji Farouk Aliu Mahama on Sunday rewarded the best teacher, under the maiden teacher’s award he instituted in his constituency.
The award went to a 41- year- old teacher of Zakoli R/C Primary School in the Yendi Municipality of the Northern Region, Mohammed Rafik Yakubu.
He took home a Yamaha CG motorbike and a cash sum of GH¢ 1,000.
Mr Abukari Yakubu of Jaboni R/C Primary School who was
adjudged the first runner-up also took home a CG motorbike and cash of GH¢500 while Hajia Akilu Taqiyatu of Central Islamic in Yendi Township went home with 32-inch plasma TV and cash of GH¢ 1, 000 as second runner up.
In all, 20 teachers and staff of the Yendi Municipal Directorate of the Ghana Education Service (GES) were awarded.
Speaking at the awards ceremony, he said the institution of the awards scheme was to boost morale and acknowledge the efforts of teachers in the municipality.
“I want to see our teachers make us proud not only locally but nationally and internationally,” he said.
He stated that teachers daily put in a lot of sacrifices to change the world by building the knowledge and skills of future generations.
“We all owe a great debt of appreciation to them for various roles they play in our lives,” Alhaji Mahama stated.
He said: “education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today.”
He stated that teachers in the Yendi Municipality need to be acknowledged for their immeasurable contribution towards human development.
The MP added that, the massive investment in education would come to nothing if the teachers do not rise to the occasion and respond positively to clear vision of transforming the constituency through education.
Alhaji Mahama also said no society in the world had developed without a conscious attention to its educational system and teachers who deliver on quality education.
He stated that, his New Yendi City (NYC) blueprint acknowledges the value of education to human development and transformation agenda of the government.
The MP said he would continue to invest more in educational in the constituency and add to infrastructure expansion and upgrading of schools and support of human development in the municipality.
The Yendi Municipal Director of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Mr Sulley Mohammed thanked the MP for the gesture.
“This was the first of its kind in the history of education in the Yendi Municipality,” he said.
Mr Mohammed Yakubu Rafik the winner thanked the MP for instituting such an awards scheme, saying it would ginger more teachers in the municipality to also work hard to get their share at the right time.
