Wynca Sunshine donates items towards Farmers’ Day

Wynca Sunshine Agric Products and Trading Company Limited has donated items worth GH₵ 126,040 to the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) in Accra yesterday.

The gesture was in support of the upcoming National Farmers’ Day celebration tobe held in the Eastern Regional capital, Koforidua on Friday December 2 this year.

 It will be held under the theme “accelerating agricultural development through value addition.”

The items included 250 (16 liter) knapsack sprayers and 102 pesticides including other farm products.

 Presenting the items, the Marketing Manageress at Wynca Sunshine, Rachel Yang said the current economic challenges had affected the importation of their products and raw materials, adding that the exchange rate have been on the increase.

 This, she said has affected the price of goods and services adding that “most companies are almost running at a loss.”

 That notwithstanding, Mrs Yang said Agriculture was the basic industry in the country and the role of farmers is important hence,the decision of her outfit to support MoFA in rewarding farmers this year.

“It also gives us the opportunity we have a chance to carry out our corporate social responsibility,” she added.

Mrs Yang said Wynca Sunshine was an agrochemical company located in Kumasi and Accra and engages in farming tool production and sale of pesticides and have more 300 local employees.

Receiving the items, the Deputy Minister of MoFA in charge of Crop, Mr Yaw Frimpong Addo acknowledged that, the current economic challenges had had a toll on companies.

He stated that it had affected the donations received so far this year’s Farmers’ Day celebrations but said deserving award winners wouldbe rewarded despite the challenges.

He therefore, called on other corporate institutions to come on board to support the Ministry reward deserving farmers this year.
