WPL: Northern Ladies beat Ampen Darkoa Ladies

A 93rd-minute strike from Faiza Seidu was enough to complete a sweet comeback for her side, Northern Ladies, as they earned a famous victory over defending Malta Guinness Wom­en’s Premier League champions, Ampem Darkoa Ladies, in their Northern Zone game played at the Aliu Mahama Stadium.

It was the champions who began the game in a whirlwind fashion, scoring two quick goals in the second and 12th minutes of the game through Elizabeth Owu­su and Ophelia Serwaa Amponsah. Back from the break, the host reorganised their play and using the wings to their full effects, and it turned the game on its head with Seidu grabbing a goal back on 55 minutes.

Seven minutes later, Northern Ladies were levelled with a Wasima Mohammed strike that sent the stadium into wild jubilation.

When all was pointing to a draw game, the star girl for the day – Faiza Seidu, popped up in the box to poke home the winner past goalkeeper, Deborah Brown,in the post for Ampem Darkoa.

Pearl Pia Ladies failed to cap­italise on the slip by the leaders Ampem Darkoa to go above them on the log, as they slipped to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Prisons Ladies at the Sunyani Coronation Park with goals from Abigail Tutu­waa and Nina Agyeiwaa.

In other games in the zone, Ashtown Ladies earned a 2-1 win over debutants Tamale Super Ladies, thanks to goals from Veronica Darkwa and Josephine Addowaa with Malititi Rabiatu Mohammed pulling one back.

At the Bantama Kookoase Astroturf, Dreamz Ladies defeated Fabulous Ladies 3-1 with goals from Stella Nyamekeye, Helena Fosuaah and Sarah Nyarko with Princess Owusu getting one back, while Candy Soccer Academy were held at home to a 2-2 drawn game by Supreme Ladies.

In the Southern zone, Army Ladies thrashed Ladystrikers 4-0 to occupy the top spot on the league table.

A hat-trick from Zenabu Mu­muni plus a strike from Nancy Opoku were all they needed to send Ladystrikers packing with empty hands.

Former league champions, Hasaacas Ladies, recorded a second straight defeat on the road, when they fell 2-1 to Berry Ladies with goals from former Hasaacas player Rahama Jafaru and Cynthia Boakye Yiadom with the con­solation coming from Veronica Kumah.

Other games saw surprise package as Faith Ladies lost 1-0 at home to Soccer Intellectuals at the Dansoman Carl Reindolf Park, with the only goal coming from Mary Awuah Boateng.

Goals from Fredricka Kai Addico, Joycelyn Amoah and Yaa Serwaa Agyemang were all Essiam Socrates Ladies needed to post a 3-1 win over Ridge City with Benedicta Swatson reducing the deficit, while Police Ladies Mawusi Gbenyo grabbed the equaliser for her side as they settled for a 1-1 draw with Thunder Queens after Gifty Osei had put them ahead.
