Work assiduously to retain NPP in power in 2025 – Sarah Afful

The Central Regional Director of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), Sarah Afful, has appealed to women to be optimistic and work assiduously to retain the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in government after the 2024 general election for the continuation of its pro-poor policies for the benefit of the vulnerable and the poor.

She cautioned that voting for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) would be “a vote for insensitivity, hardship and a visionless government” capable of inflicting hardships on the citizenry.

Ms Afful, who is also contesting for the Central Regional Women’s Organiser position, observed that the role of women in breaking the eight-year jinx was essential and must be given the needed attention instead of taking women for granted on the agenda.

‘The NPP government has brought enormous socioeconomic relief to many women than any other government in the history of the country through its pro-poor policies,” she touted and pointed out that “many Ghanaian women, who cannot afford to send their children to Senior High School due to high school fees, are now saving thousands of Ghana Cedis for other economic ventures as a result of the policy.

“Under the NPP administration, many women caterers have been employed to provide delicious meals to basic school pupils under the Ghana School Feeding Programme, many other women farmers have also benefited from the Planting for Food and Jobs to boost food security and generate sustainable income for themselves,” Ms Afful stated.

According to her, the Micro Finance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) was disbursing loans to women to engage in small and medium enterprises and under the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) programme, vulnerable aged people with severe disabilities and pregnant women had also been given their monthly stipends.

Ms Afful noted that all the programmes initiated to assist and empower livelihood of women must inform them on the need to retain the NPP government to be able to continue its good governance of bettering their lives and entreated them to show appreciation to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the NPP by working hard to win all the lost seats back from the NDC.

“To achieve that, we must embark on a door-to-door campaign and propagate the achievements of the government to give the party resounding victory in 2024 and our impact must be felt within the party and as you know women are good at reaching out to a lot of people in the grassroots with good messages,” she implored.

Ms Afful indicated that the party appreciated the efforts of women and admonished them to continue supporting and assisting the party to win both the presidential and parliamentary elections. -GNA
