‘Women need equal playing field in assembly elections’

Madam Enyonam Ndinya, an aspiring Assembly Member for Peki-Tsame Electoral Area in the South Dayi District of the Volta Region, has called for an equal playing field in the impending district level elections.

She explained that women were naturally endowed with wisdom, knowledge, skills and could contribute their quota to the growth and development of the country, especially at the local level when given the needed opportunity.

Madam Ndinya, a retired educationist, noted that “issues affecting women are at the local level thus the need for women to be allowed to participate in the governance processes at that level, women are natural leaders, their participation, representation in the governance and decision-making processes of the country will push the country towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

“I will prioritise education when given the nod and work on teachers’ quarters to attract more qualified teachers to the area, focus on youth employment through collaboration with the assembly, nongovernmental organisations, other development agents to create job avenues, wealth for our youth and also work to promote cleanliness with every household owning toilets,” she assured.

Madam Rose Duse, a Unit Committee aspirant at Tongor-Dzemeni East Electoral Area, observed that the nation’s quest for accelerated socioeconomic growth and development would be a mirage if women participation in governance and decision-making processes continued to be low.

She cautioned that lack of self-confidence was posing a great challenge to women, especially young women standing up for leadership positions and appealed to governance institutions to “help prepare women for such elections and my main objective of vying for the position is to promote sanitation in the community because a healthy nation is a prosperous nation.” -GNA
