Woman jailed 2 months for stealing GH¢4,600

A 25-year-old unemployed woman, who allegedly connived with her friend to steal GH¢4,600 from a small-scale miner has been sentenced to two months imprisonment by the Tarkwa District Court, in the Western Region.

The court presided over by Charles Owusu Ansah, also imposed GH¢1,080 fine on the convict, Queenstabel Mintah, also called Ohemaa, or in default serve four more months in prison.

She pleaded guilty to the charge of stealing and was convicted on her own plea.

Police Sergeant Douglas Addai, prosecuting, told the court that the complainant, Eric Ankomah, a small-scale miner, resides at Bogrekrom, whiles Queenstabel lives at Brahabobom, all in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipality.

The court heard that the complainant was attacked by the convict and Maame Yaa, now at large, at the Tarkwa Railway station.

Sgt. Addai said the two women took GH¢4,600 from Ankomah and fled.

He said the complainant reported the case to the police at Tarkwa, and Queenstabel was later arrested in the Township.

Sgt. Addai told the court that efforts were being made to arrest Maame Yaa. —GNA
