WISA awards NSA boss, 31 others

The Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Prof Peter Twumasi and Nana Opoku Fosu Gyeabour II, Founder/CEO of Ampem Darkoa Ladies FC were among 32 high profile guests honoured at the eighth edition of the Women In Sports Association (WISA) awards held on Saturday at the Media Centre of the Accra Sports Stadium.

The event, supported by Ghandour Cosmetics Limited, sought to reward the awardees for their contribution towards sports development and promotion in the country.

Other winners on the day included Sarah Lotus Asare for the promotion of girls boxing, Patience Ofei, Beauty Fiator and Seth Dzidzornu of the Blind School, Larnuel Veronica and Abigail Tetteh from the Netball Federation of Ghana (NFG), Nina Akosua Efedi Okoroafor, a social worker in goal sports, Vivian Mawufemor Dougblor and Mrs. Gifty Horsu-Fianu for sports promotion.

Leading the media personalities for special honours include Mr. Boakye Buckman (Dada Oliseh), a Photo/Sports Journalist, Mrs. Mavis Amanor Avornyor of the Multimedia Group, Abigail Sena Sosu of Gtv Sports+, Nana Ama Agyeman, of GH One TV, Esther Abankwa, Angel TV/Angel FM, Senynuiedzorm Awusi Adadevoh, a Photo/Sports Journalist Joana Afua Mensah, Producer/News Editor UTV.

Nana Joe Adarkwa, Head Coach of Ampem Darkoa Ladies FC was honoured for his exploits with the club in Ghana and Africa, followed Cleopatra Nsiah Nketiah, CEO, Ridge City Football Club Women, Rugby League Federation Ghana, Team (Women’s Wing), Rosebud Ennin, Senior Private Secretary at the Technical Department of the NSA and Nii Akramah Tagoe, CEO of Tagoe’s Kitchen for his support for the industry.

The rest are Rose Amoanimaa Yeboah, High Jumper, Deborah Acquah, Long Jumper, Mr. Abraham Nkansah, a supporters’ leader/football coach, Die-Hard Supporters Union, Madam Ethel Jacks, a former national table tennis queen, Madam Christiana Genevieve Dodoo, former Secretary General/Handball (NSA) and Madam Angelina Ocran, a former Director of Sports (CEPS).

Also on hand to receive awards were Madam Grace Armah, a former national athlete/Olympian, Madam Cynthia Akweley Lamptey, a former goalkeeper, football/handball (GNFS), Dr. Harriet Naki Amui, First Vice Chairperson of Ghana Athletics Association (GAA) and Mrs. Abigail Mckorley, CEO Beebies Events Ghana.

Addressing the guests, Madam Gloria Commodore commended the winners for their efforts in the year under review and urged others to work harder to be awarded in the next edition.
