The Western Regional Coordinating Council (WRCC) with the assistance of the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communication (GIFEC) has presented computers and accessories to the Lands Commission to restore operations of the Office of the Administrator of Stool Lands which was gutted by fire on May 5.
The equipment included 10 desktop computers, 10 Unit Processing Systems (UPS), 10 scanners and three network printers.
Presenting the items, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of GIFEC, Abraham Kofi Asante, said the organisation was poised to pursue government’s digitisation agenda, and expressed joy that the equipment had been delivered on time to restore operations at the Lands Commission.
He assured that GIFEC would continue to visit the Commission to ensure that their systems operated effectively.
The Western Regional Minister, Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, said soon after the fire outbreak at the Stool Land office, the WRCC held meetings to tackle critical issues, including equipment to ensure that work at the Lands Commission was restored.
He said the WRCC liaised with GIFEC to assist the Lands Commission, assuring the public that business at the Stool Land office was operational.
“We have delivered the computers on time to ensure that the Lands Commission is operational especially in view of the oil and gas business in the Western Region,” Mr Darko-Mensah added.
The Western Regional Chairman of the Lands Commission, Dr Isaac Kofi Sagoe, noted that the WRCC worked tirelessly to get the computers, saying the Stool Lands was 90 per cent operational.
He said, the office had a critical role to play in the energy, oil and gas sectors, and also the One-district one-factory programme and would work hard to keep the confidence of the public and clients.
Dr Sagoe said the government had assured of a new office structure for the Western Regional Lands Commission, and reassured the public that, “all documents are safe as we have reactivated the Central Processing Unit.”
The Acting Western Regional Lands Officer, Seth Boakye Owusu, said, “We are happy to receive these computers in this moment of distress. This is to ensure that we are operational and effective.”
