WESS 1977-year group donates to alma mater

The 1977 – year group of Wen­chi Senior High School (WESS) on Tuesday handed over GH¢40,000 mechanised water facility to their alma mater at Wenchi, in the Bono region.

Constructed to address the perennial water challenge of the school, the facility would also save students and teachers the number of hours they trek to fetch water.

The President of the 1977 – year group of the Old Students Association (OSA), Rev. Dr Ayensu Mensah, at the commis­sioning event commended the contractor for delivering quality job towards improving academic activities.

Rev. Dr Mensah said that the completion of the project brought a sigh of relief to students, staff and past students of WESS because the school has lived with water challenge for years.

He noted that water is a ne­cessity of life and a fundamental human right which every individ­ual must enjoy saying, “provision of water is life.”

The Group President implored the management and staff of the school to use the facility judicious­ly, maintain and protect it for it to last longer for posterity to benefit.

Most Rev. Dr Paul Kwabena Boafo, the Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church – Ghana (MCG), an old student, encour­aged both teachers and students to collaborate to ensure academic excellence.

The Presiding Bishop implored the students to humble them­selves under the authority of their teachers in order to pass their final examination well saying, “I scored five grade A’s in my final examination in this same school.”

He noted that, “don’t see your teachers as too strict on you. They are not worrying you. Your teach­ers really love you and want you to excel in life. Ten years after your completion, you will thank them.”

The Headmaster of WESS, Very Rev. Twumasi Ampofo, expressed gratitude to the 1977 – year group for the timely gesture to the school stressing, “we hope other individuals and institutions will follow suit.”

Very Rev. Ampofo indicated that nation building was a shared responsibility and that govern­ment alone cannot do everything without the complement of individuals and groups emphasis­ing, “together we can make WESS great and strong.”
