‘We’ll highlight our competence, prowess during campaign’

The National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sammy Awuku, has stated that the party will highlight its leadership competence, prowess and courage in dealing with unforeseen challenges such as the pandemic with a full rounded approach during the campaign.

“The party will feature the achievements of the president in ongoing fight against the novel coronavirus in its upcoming political campaign and the NPP’s decision to include achievements in our campaign message is due to the unforeseen challenges,” he stressed.

Mr Awuku explained that the government had shown leadership, courage and  honesty in handling health crisis which would also form part of narrative when confronted with pandemic in response to what it was able to do as a people because it had limited impact, ensured testing  many people and contact traced in terms of fighting pandemic.

He noted that the government’s feats in ongoing anti-COVID-19 combat to their campaign message would be advantageous for the party and inure to their advantage since none of the political parties could predict they were going to face pandemic in their first term or when elected into office.

“This is quite an unforeseen challenge and your response, ability to stand firm, realise what is needed to be done to get out of situation but not out of woods yet, fight underlying disease, causes of it with the government doing well in fight against virus as well as other underlying factors that can potentially lead to surge in pandemic.

“Previous governments had not performed well when faced with more preventable and predictable epidemics, however, President Nana Akufo-Addo’s response and preparedness in face of unpredictable coronavirus has been tremendous because we are confronted with challenge and will be part of campaign.

“For us in the NPP when we are listing issues we believe we have been able to do for the citizenry, our response to pandemic should form part of our narrative, we debunk assertions some decisions made by the government in combating COVID-19 has been politically motivated.

“We have done this regardless of political interest, and I give you an example, every action and decision taken by the government as far as this pandemic is concerned has not been politically motivated,” Mr Awuku insisted. -myjoyonline.com
