We demand voting rights in internal elections – Former NPP MPs

Former Members of Parliament of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) are demanding voting rights in all internal elections of the party as a recognition of their invaluable contributions to its progress, development and growth.

They petitioned the General Secretary to initiate the processes to that effect and not to underestimate their efforts in the growth and development of the NPP.

“Our efforts in assisting and supporting the development of the party cannot be underestimated, as a group, we believe the constitution of the party must reflect hope, aspirations and potentials of members, having regard we are registered members of the party and we have acted as members who represented our various constituencies,” the former MPs stressed.

Collins Owusu Amankwah, the former MP for Manhyia North Constituency in the Ashanti Region and the Secretary to the former MPs, on the sidelines of the Ashanti Regional Delegates’ Conference of the NPP at Akyawkrom in the Ejisu Municipality noted that the former MPs had contributed and still contributing both in kind and in cash to the party’s progress, growth and development.

He said it was time for them to be recognised and proposed amendment of Article 7 (27) of the constitution to make room for them to participate in all internal elections and
appealed to members of the National Council to take critical look at the constitution and take necessary steps to grant their request.

According to him, just as Article 15 granted external branches, Nasara, youth and women’s wings voting rights, the former MPs also deserved recognition in the party since they alsocontributed, assisted and supported activities of the party and should be recognised and not underestimated. -GNA
