Wakaso joins KAS Eupen

Belgian top-flight side, KAS Eupen have announced the signing of Ghana international, Mubarak Wakaso, on a year loan deal from Chinese first division club Shenzhen FC.

Wakaso, 32, last featured for Chinese Super League fold, Shenzhen FC in 2021, having spent a year earlier with Jiangsu F.C in 2020.

With just 80 days to the 2022 FIFA World Cup, his return to active football could entice Ghana coach Otto Addo, who believes in the experience of the midfielder – having played 70 international matches for Ghana and scored 13 goals.

The defensive midfielder spent most of his career in Spain where he played for Villareal, Elche, Las Palmas, Espanyol and DeportivoAlaves, but had a short stint with Celtic where he won the Scottish Premiership and League Cup in 2015.

General Director of KAS Eupen, Christoph Henkel, said Wakaso would add structure, stability and creativity to KAS Eupen’s game in the Jupiler Pro League.

“We are convinced that our young players will be able to develop even better alongside him and wish him a successful season with KAS Eupen.”
