Victory Presbyterian Church School celebrates annual Education Week

The activities to mark the annual Education Week celebration of the Victory Presbyterian Church School, Frafraha-Adentan in the Greater Accra Region has started.

Under the theme: “You are the light of the world.”, the week-long event started last week Sunday involved activities such as floats, prefects handing over ceremony, spelling competition, inter class basketball contests and decorative art work displays.

Others were cultural displays, spoken words and recitals, dancing and singing competition and the climax, a thanksgiving service held yesterday at the Victory Presbyterian Church Frafraha-Adentan.

The Director of the school, Ms. Dorothy Anima Frempong, in an interview said the celebration dubbed: The “Variety Day” is one of the core mandates on the calendar of the Presbyterian Church and being celebrated in all schools under the church.

The day, the Director explained, which coincided with the 27th anniversary celebrations of the school was to basically bring out their talents.

The pupils as the future leaders are the light of a school that is about 27 years old, with 1,730 students.

Ms Frempong on discipline said the school had a clinical psychologist and a counsellor who helped in addressing both emotional and academic challenges confronting the pupils.

“We have core values which are discipline, hard work and integrity, and as a Christian institution which would not be compromised even though modern parenting is far different from that of yesterday we shall try and build the pupils on that foundation,” she added.

The Director indicated that the school also offered counselling programmes which guide the pupils on their choice of courses and the schools that run such programmes.

“You don’t pick a school just because your father or mother was an old student because there are some programmes that are not run in particular secondary schools so we take them through a meeting with the parents including the authorities in order to get their best school choices for them,” she added.

Ms Frempong commended the teachers for constantly monitoring the performance of the pupils a process which helped in unearthing the talents of the pupils as well as those going through emotional challenges at home.
