The mortal remains of the late Hajia Mariama Bawumia, mother of the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia was yesterday laid to rest at the family home in Walewale, capital of West Mamprusi Municipality in the North East Region.
The late HajiaMariamaBawumia was flown to Walewale from Accra when she died after a short illness.
Hundreds of people from all walks of live thronged the municipality to show their last respect to late Hajia Mariana Bawumia.
Many of the people besieged the family house before the body was brought in for burial.
The National Chief Imam Dr Sheikh Nuhu Osman Sheributu led the Janna prayer for late HajiaMariamaBawumia.
He prayed to Allah to grant her everlasting mercy in her grave.
The Vice President Dr. Bawumia was accompanied by the National Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP)Freddie Blay, National Secretary, John Boadu, and the National Organizer, Sammy Awuku and other bigwigs of the NPP.
The Majority leader in parliament, Mr. Kyei Mensah Bonsu, Minority leader, Haruna Iddrisu, Interior Minister, Ambrose Dery, Ministers and host of members of Parliament were also at the burial ceremony of late HajiaMariamaBawumia.
Some women in Walewale shared tears as they claimed the late Hajia was their helper.
She was burial in the same compound that her husband was buried.
Meanwhile the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo earlier on Monday visited Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia at his residence in Accra to mourn with him on the loss of his mother.
President Akufo-Addo, who was accompanied by the First Lady, Rebecca Akufo-Addo, signed a book of condolence at the Vice President’s house.
“My wife Rebecca and I came to express our condolences and sympathies to the Vice President and his family at the sad loss of his mother,” he wrote
President Akufo-Addo described the Vice President’s late mother as a “delightful and courteous lady who looked after us very well at the occasions that we met her here and at Walewale”
He prayed for God’s blessings on her and for a peaceful rest
