Hundreds of Tijannian Muslims in Ghana and across the sub-region on Friday climaxed their three-day annual Quranic recitation and supplications at Prang in the Bono East Region, with special prayers for the peace and prosperity for Ghana.

They were joined in the Friday congregational prayers (Jumah) by the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, who led a government delegation to the function.

Earlier in the day, former President John Dramani Mahama also led a delegation from the National Democratic Congress to solidarise with the annual event in the calendar of the Tijannia Muslim community.

The theme for this year’s recitation, the 57th edition was “Peace, Justice; Prerequisite tools for a lasting coexistence of all races.”

The Supreme Leader of the Tijannia Muslim Council of Ghana, Sheikh Abdul-Faidi Ahmed Abdulai Makaino Jallo who led the Muslims in the Quranic recitation which started on Wednesday led at the Jumah prayers in the Prang Central Mosque.

He prayed to Allah for his continuous blessing for peace, blessings and prosperity for humanity in general and Ghana in particular.

Sheikh Jallo, also known as the Khalifa amongst the Tijannia Muslims, in his sermon called for peaceful coexistence between Muslims and other faith saying that the beauty of humanity as enjoined by Allah is peaceful coexistence.

The Khalifa said it behooves the Muslim community to continually seek the blessings of Allah for peace and prosperity for the country.

At the end of the Quranic recitation and supplications, the Tijannia Muslims recited the Holy Qur’an 1,072 times and SuratulIkhlas (a verse) over 14 million times.

The annual Qur’anic recitation was instituted by Sheikh Maikano Jallo of blessed memory, the first Chief Imam of the Ghana Armed Forces, in 1963.

It is meant to seek the blessings of Allah for lasting peace in the country, the pleasure of Allah and for the sanctity of the religion of Islam.

The Holy Qur’an, which literally means recitation, embodies the message of Allah delivered through arch angel Jibril (Gabril) to the Holy Prophet Mohammed (Peace and Blessings be upon Him) for humanity.

Muslims are enjoined to continually recite it in prayers and at their leisure time wherever, to seek the blessings and mercies of Allah.
