Veep inaugurates 56km Jasikan-Dodo Pepesu road

The Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia on Thursday inaugurated the 56.4 kilometer Jasikan- Dodo Pepesu section of the Eastern Corridor road.

The $45 million project completed in 30 months was funded from the Master Project Support Agreement between Ghana Government and Sinohydro Corporation Limited of China.

It links the southern part of the country to the north and the neighbouring countries.

The sod-cutting for the initial project was done in November, 2019 by the Vice President but the actual work commenced in December 19, 2020.

The Vice President noted that under Phase 1 of the project, a total of 441 kms of roads was to be constructed under Chinese arrangement and one of them was the Jasikan-Dodo Pepesu road.

He said the government was working on all the eight slots of the Eastern Corridor road to make it motorable.

He said the completion of this part of road would improve accessibility between Jasikan to Dodo-Pepesu and vehicles plying the road would not get stuck again in the mud as it used to be.

The Vice President expressed his happiness that the portion of the road had been completed with asphalt at the scheduled time to facilitate easy movement of goods and services to the northern part of Oti and other parts of the country in the north.

He assured the people of government’s total commitment in making sure that all road projects are completed to minimise inconveniences when travelling on our roads.

He expressed satisfaction with the level and quality of work executed on the project and commended the workers.

The Minister of Roads and Highways, Kwasi Amoako-Attah, thanked the Chinese government for their immense cooperation during the implementation period of the project.

He advised the beneficiary communities along the road to have good maintenance culture and warned that those who would establish washing bay along the road and other damaging activities to rethink.

He assured the people that the government would continue to improve all the road networks in the region to bring comfort and less accidents on our roads.

The Chinese Ambassador to Ghana,  Lu Kun, in his remarks stated that Ghana remained one of the attractive country to invest and do business as such China and Ghana would continue to work together for the mutual benefit of the two countries.

The Oti Regional Minister, Dr Joshua Makubu, in his welcome address thanked the government for fixing that stretch of road with asphalt, adding it would go a long way to open up the region and improve the local economy through trade and services.

Nana Asabre Amankwaah II, Baamuhene of Kadjebi Traditional Area on behalf of chiefs and people of Oti thanked the government for keeping to his promise to fix this road which had been causing inconveniences to motorists who plied it over the years.
