‘Use social media platforms to promote Ghana football’

A Marketing Communication professional, Mr Albert Aryee, has urged Ghana Premier League (GPL) clubs to utilise social media platforms to promote their clubs and Ghana football.

According to Mr Aryee, efforts must be put in place to propagate positive images of Ghana football on social media in order to attract foreign partnerships.

“Sports is generating a lot of interest globally and Ghanaian clubs must use social media to build their reputation and image for the growth of football in Ghana,” he said.

He was speaking on the theme, “Social Media Impact on Sports Development,” at the Betwayup Public Relations (PR) Summit held in Accra on Wednesday.

The summit, which was a collaboration between Betway, Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) and the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG), brought together communication officers and administrators of GPL clubs to discuss measures to improve upon their communication and ultimately enhance visibility of the GPL.

“Social media is a great platform to engage the global world and promote players, clubs and football as done in Europe and other developed countries,” he stated.

He commended Accra Great Olympics for effectively utilising their social media in the just-ended GPL season to promote activities of the club and in effect, help attract attention to the GPL.

“Olympics have been splendid on social media and their efforts brought some great deal of attention to the 2020/2021 league season which other clubs must emulate,” he stressed.

Also speaking on the theme, “Effective Communication with Stakeholders,” Mr Kofi Addae, an experienced CAF official, also urged clubs to improve upon their communication with the media.

He said, it was important for recognised spokespersons of clubs to build a reputation in the media and effectively be the link between the team and the public.

“They must relate to the media very well and always learn new ways to engage and communicate with the public on their activities,” he stated.

Other speakers include, Mr Randy Abbey, an Executive Council member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and former Vice President of the GFA, Mr Fred Pappoe – both encouraged communication officers to build trust and integrity among the media and the public at large.

GHALCA Chairman Mr Kudjoe Fianoo was optimistic that the summit would make next season’s league more competitive and interesting.

Country Manager-Marketing at Betway Ghana, Kwabena Oppong said a similar event would be held for the Women’s League as well as the Division One clubs within the year.

That, he said, formed part of their contribution towards the growth of football in the country.
