‘US blockade against Cuba threatens world peace’

The Cuban government has said the United States of America’s (USA) fresh sanctions to strengthen the blockade imposed on Cuba threaten the peace and stability in the world.

Speaking at a press conference in Accra yesterday, Cuban Ambassador to Ghana, Mr Pedro Luis Despaigne Gonzalez said, the USA on Wednesday, October 9, 2019 announced a new blockade against Cuban economy.

He mentioned that the new blockage prohibited Cuban citizens working in the USA from sending not more than 1,200 dollars to Cuba per quarter.

The Cuban Ambassador added that, donations from the USA to support social interventions in Cuba had also been banned, a situation, he said was a deliberate attempt to bring hardship and suffering to the people of Cuba.

Mr Gonzalez said the USA is also threatening to sanction countries that export oil to Cuba, stressing such initiative plotted by the USA would not only bring hardship on Cubans but immigrants living in the country.

“We reject the hostile regime change agenda of the USA government as it applies to the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.

We strongly reject the unlawful unilateral coercive measured applied by the Donald Trump administration against the people of Venezuela which openly violates human rights, international law and the principle of sovereignty and non-interference.

We reaffirm our unwavering solidarity with the cause of the Western Sahara and demand that the resolution adopted in the General Assembly of the United Nations be fulfilled as a definitive solution,” he said.

Mr Gonzalez appealed to the United Nations and African Union to take immediate actions to help lift the economic, commercial and financial blockade on Cuba.

The Head of Delegation to the 6th African Continental Conference of Solidarity with Cuba in Abuja, Mr Peter Lumor urged African governments to reject the unjust imposition by the USA and its allies.

He said Africa needed to expand its trade relations with Cuba for mutual benefit.
