The District Chief Executives for West Gonja in the Savannah Region and Afigya-Kwabre South have appealed to their respective Assembly members to unite and concentrate on the development issues that will benefit the communities.
“Let us remember the common agenda we have is the eradication of poverty, hunger, violent conflict, squalor and diseases among our people and can only be achieved if we unite and focus on issues that will bring development to our people,” they stressed at separate Assembly meetings.
Saeed Jibril and Christian Poku, District Chief Executives for West Gonja in the Savannah region and Afigya-Kwabre South respectively, made the appeal when they addressed Assembly Members and heads of institutions and departments at their Ordinary Assembly Meeting of the West Gonja and Afigya-Kwabre to plan the development agenda of the areas.
They stressed the need for Assemblies to create awareness on the development projects in the districts to enable the people to appreciate government’s efforts to improve on their livelihoods.
Mr Jibril informed the Assembly about the creation of Savanna Region and Damongo as its administrative capital and the presentation of the region with its Document of Attestation and Constitutional Instrument (CI) 115.
“Damongo is challenged with accommodation facilities to house officers posted for the smooth take-off of the region, with unity, peace and focus the region will receive its fair share of national cake for development,” and commended the Assembly for diverse efforts to attain the region to justify its creation and immense role in mobilising revenue for development.
According to Mr Poku, “development is a shared responsibility, there is the need for the Assembly, traditional authorities, opinion leaders and other key stakeholders in the community to work together to find solutions to numerous challenges facing our people,” and advised them to desist from negative tendencies and use laid down procedures to resolve grievances in the community.
“Let us work in close partnership with traditional authorities, opinion leaders and other key stakeholders to initiate and implement practical measures that will accelerate development of the community,” he said.
Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, Chairman of the Afigya-Kwabre South Constituency of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), urged members of the Assembly and political party leaders to unite and focus on accelerating development of the area. -GNA
