The Upper East Regional Minister, Ms Paulina Patience Abayage, has made a personal donation of 200 dual-desks to some deprived schools in the region as part of her 55th birthday celebration.
Ms Abayage also donated some food items and detergents to the children’s ward of the Bolgatanga Regional, the Navrongo War Memorial Hospital.
The Regional Minister indicated that one of the major challenges confronting the region was lack of furniture in most deprived communities hence her resolve to donate the school desks to the regional directorate for distribution to the selected beneficiaries.
Presenting the furniture to the Regional Directorate of Education to be distributed to the deprived schools in the three zonal areas in the region including West, South and the East zones, the regional minister indicated that one of the major challenges confronting the region was lack of furniture for most schools.
Ms Abayage stated that she was prompted to solicit support from some of her friends to procure the furniture to help address the challenge and gave the assurance that the government was doing everything possible to ensure that all schools without furniture were provided with the item to facilitate teaching and learning.
The Regional Deputy Director of the Ghana Education Service (GES) in charge of Planning, Mr Razark Abdual-Korah , received the furniture and thanked Ms Abayage for such sacrificial job and appealed to other personalities to emulate the shining example of the regional minister by supporting needy institutions in the region, particularly deprived schools.
He assured the regional minister that the directorate would facilitate to ensure that the furniture was distributed to the needy schools in the earmarked zones.
